Millage Rates
The 2004 millage rates for Washtenaw County are detailed in the table
below. Millages are property taxes assessed on residents and businesses
for operating expenses of communities, schools, and community colleges.
In Michigan, millages are based on 50% of the True Cash Value, called
the State Equalized Value, or "SEV" of a property. This includes real
and personal property. A "mill" is equal to $1.00 per $1,000 SEV.
Based on an average millage rate of 54 mills, taxes would be calculated as follows:
- $500,000÷2=$250,000 (SEV of property)
- $250,000÷1,000=250 X 54 mils=$13,500 (millage rate for one year)
